Slime Mold Reclassified as Alien Organism
Slime mold is such an unusual one-celled organism that scientists have reclassified it as extraterrestrial. As it forages for food, it can be "tricked" into solving mazes or finding the shortest route that reaches all points on a map. It displays an undeniable type of "intelligence."
The next question is "Where did it come from?"
Just place oat flakes on a surface in the relative positions of map destinations and Slime Mold goes to work. Its pulsing expansions and contractions triggered by chemotaxis (smell) exhibit an eerie kind of "intelligence" and "sentience."
